Going to HK for a week. Any advice?
I have not been to Hong Kong in three years. My work-mate has never been there.
We am flying from California. We will be staying in Sha Tin for a week. I will be there for my job. I will have only one free day. Any interesting advice?
We will arrive at the Hong Kong Airport on Sunday afternoon on the 18th (local time in HK).
We want to take the Metro from the Airport on Lantau Island to Kowloon or someplace close to Sha Tin. We will take a cab to my hotel in Sha Tin. What Metro stop is best? I know the closest is not always best as traffic and geography can be an issue.
Our hotel is the Regal Riverside Hotel 34-36 TAI Chung KIU Road Hong Kong.

Yes, I already have some Hong Kong Dollars, and I will keep them safe. Last time someone jacked my PDA from my jacket pocket while I was on the crowded Metro. I know better now.

Actually the nearest MTR Stn to that hotel is Sha Tin Wai Stn, but if you want u can catch a taxi from Shatin MTR Stn, which is on the East Rail line and its not far either. Its not very accessible by MTR but if you want, you can take AEL from Airport to Hong Kong Stn and walk to Central Stn and take Tsuen Wan line towards Tsuen Wan. Alight @ Mong Kok Stn and take Kwun Tong line towards Yau Tong and alight @ Kowloon Tong Stn. Transfer again to East Rail line towards Lo Wu, Shenzhen and alight 2 stn after @ Sha Tin Stn. From there, taxi is available nearby @ Sha Tin New Town Plaza and its take about 10 min to reach there by taxi.
Actually there is a more direct route to the hotel by taking the bus, you can the bus photo at http://www.kmb.hk/english.php?page=longwin&file=bus-c.html . The bus to take is A41 and it can be taken at Ground Transportation Ctr just outside the Airport Ter 1. As for attraction, head to HK Cultural Museum near Che Kung Tp MTR Stn and Ma On Shan line is the nearest stn to your hotel. You can also take the line to Wu Kui Sha and transfer KMB bus 99 to Sai Kung for sumptuous seafood. Actually there are many interesting places along the East Rail line that I can recommend you, but since u have only 1 day, then you should state what you are interested in, as well as you workmate.
As for street market, I;m not sure as the area is mainly residential and it hardly frequent by visitors. You can always take a taxi or free shuttle provided by the hotel to Sha Tin and visit the New Town Plaza that I just mention earlier. For Night Market, take the East Rail line towards TST East and alight @ Mong Kok East Stn and walk straight on Bute St till you hit Tung Choi St, where the famous Ladies Market is located. Many cheap and good items are around there, so its worth taking a look around there.
